Hi Huskies Fans!

I hope you’re all well and enjoying the start of the hockey season. It was great to hang out with some of you at the Huskies fans summer meet up in July and even better to see you all back, packing out the stands and cheering on our team at the Palace.

Wow – what a weekend of hockey we have just had! Two games that challenged us and made us work hard for everything, but I am really pleased we were able to come away with maximum points.

Saturday was high scoring drama for the fans with lots of goals to celebrate. You don’t see old fashioned shootouts like that every week and it was certainly a throwback to days gone by. Oxford have some very good, experienced players who cause teams lots of problems as well as some good young talent.

We’ve been focussing on gelling as lines in training and I think we are starting to see some of that when we’re coming into matches now. I am always satisfied when I see goals go in that have multiple assists and we had a few of those against Oxford.

On Sunday we made the long trip to Wales for the first ever home match of the newly formed Cardiff Canucks. There was a big crowd in attendance and I think the two teams put on a good show. Like Oxford, Cardiff has a balance of good, experienced veterans and eager young players.

I understand the Canucks model sees their players on the ice multiple times during the week whilst balancing education. It is a really interesting one for British hockey and is giving great development opportunities to young players.

In terms of the match, we played some good, attacking hockey and edged it by the odd goal. Their netminder was on form but we found a way to get the job done which made the trip home much better.

I just wanted to say a big thank you to all the fans that supported us over the weekend. The team and I really appreciate it and it means a lot to us. Although there were many more Cardiff fans in the building on Sunday, it was our very own Huskies fans that had the loudest voices.
